About Us
From a small group of dedicated neighbors in 1996, Spencer County Habitat for Humanity has grown into a powerful force for change—building not just houses, but hope.
As part of a global, nonprofit housing organization grounded in Christian principles, we seek to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities, and hope.
Since officially affiliating in 1997, we’ve partnered with 31 families across six local communities, helping them achieve the stability and dignity of affordable homeownership. Each home we build is more than a structure—it’s a foundation for stronger families, healthier futures, and a more vibrant community.
Today, that mission continues in Hatfield and Newtonville—but we can’t do it alone.
You can be part of the next chapter.
Whether you volunteer your time, donate resources, or help spread the word, your support makes it possible for more families to build a place to call home.
Join us. Build hope. Change lives.

Jenny Thomas, Director
Jenny Thomas has called Spencer County home since 2004. Her journey with Habitat for Humanity began as a board member in 2011, and by 2012, she stepped into the role of Executive Director. At that time, the affiliate was building just one home every 18 months, with a dwindling volunteer base and limited fundraising. Since then, the organization has experienced a remarkable turnaround. The fundraiser now brings in nearly $20,000 annually, providing the vital resources needed to scale the mission. Moving from a struggle to build one home, the affiliate is now working on 1.5 houses in 2026, with a clear goal of completing two homes in 2027.
Jenny’s vision for Spencer County Habitat is fueled by faith and a desire for sustainable impact. She dreams of a day when building 2–3 homes per year is the standard. Her goal is to expand the organization’s capacity to include a full-time Executive Director and a full-time construction professional on staff.
Beyond Habitat, Jenny is a dedicated leader across multiple facets of Spencer County life. Her commitment to service and leadership is evident in her many roles:
- Vice President, Spencer County Regional Chamber of Commerce
- Vice President, Spencer County Chamber Foundation Board
- Vice President, Leadership Spencer County Board
Family, Faith, and Artistry
Her life is rooted in the community alongside her husband, Kevin, their three children—Shay, Seth, and bonus son Shawn—and their two beloved fur babies, Molly and Luna.
As a devoted member of St. Peter’s UCC in Lamar, Jenny serves as the President of the Church Council. She also shares her passion for music as the church pianist and choir director.
